Cityscapes
This series of cityscapes began from a memory that I have from when I was a little kid. I owned a puzzle of a city where the people were diverse and distinguished. The women wore beautiful hats and long coats. The men were all wearing suits and dress shoes. I remember their shoes were shiny like when an artist would draw a little white square in a balloon to describe it’s volume.
I was mesmerized by the painting and would study it long after I finished the puzzle. The artist had an intriguing way of abstracting the street scene into simple shapes using clean lines an very bold colors. The street signs, the flower boxes, the window were all made up of hundreds of squares, rectangles and triangles, fitting together so thoughtfully as if the painting was a puzzle itself. Although I have not found out who the artist is, I will always be moved by this experience.
